    Really pretty, Laura! When you make this sort of pincushion, do you stitch the front and back together by hand or machine? I've never done any "finishing" techniques before, but I have so many Blackbird charts that I'd love to stitch and finish as pincushions. Do you use batting or fiberfill to stuff it, or some other sort of filling?

    Just gorgeous Laura and like Kevin I have a lot of questions about finishing into pincushions as well. All I have ever done is frame my stitching and frankly, I'm out of wall space plus I love the look of the pin keeps. Any help, tips, ect... would be greatly appreciated.

    I sew with the machine, fill it with fiber, close my hand and end the chenille trim sew by hand

    Love this pincushion! I also love the Blackbird girls. They have taught at several retreats I've attended. Guess what they recommend to stuff their pincushions? Reptile litter. Yes, find the crushed walnuts litter at Petco or Petsmart. You will need to use fusing on the back of your stitched piece (to keep the litter from leaking out). This technique adds a bit of weight to the pincushion, and is especially nice if you have a shelf pillow style pincushion. Stuff the top with fiberfill, and the bottom with the crushed walnuts. Your pillow will stand up without propping it. Keep stitching!
